A short introduction to the sensor

The sensor includes: Interface box, power supply and free opensource software (VeloView) for visualisation. The interface box is used to connect power, optional GPS and ethernet cable to the computer.

It’s important to note that the laser scanner is only an instrument sending raw data which are coordinates in the laser coordinate system. It outputs simple laser distance, intensity and angles but not a point cloud.

To generate a point cloud or use the laser data for other purposes you might need other sensors and for sure other software.

The sensor sends data over ethernet by UDP packages. You can implement your own code to read these packages and calculate laser coordinates with UTC time (if the laser is connected to GPS).
